🇫🇷 Modernisation work on funicular F1 in Lyon

Project
Location
Lyon - France
Type
Track renewal

TSO has been chosen by SYTRAL and Keolis to carry out rail renewal work on Lyon’s F1 funicular, linking Saint Just and Vieux-Lyon.
The work is being carried out as part of the maintenance of these funicular trains to guarantee the performance of the line and the safety of daily passengers.

The scope of the work includes renewing 324 linear metres of rail and carrying out 38 aluminothermic welds.
Our teams therefore worked every night, between midnight and 4:30 am, for almost 3 weeks in order to maintain commercial traffic.

To carry out this work, our teams had to deal with several logistical constraints, in particular the line’s gradient of up to 16% and  its location in a tunnel (with only one open-air access).
To transport the equipment, a crane was used to move a mini-excavator and all the equipment. At the same time, the mini-excavator was the central element of the project, transporting all the materials to the work area.

This new project in the region demonstrates TSO’s ability to operate in the densest areas and to take account of all site configurations (including the most restrictive) in order to bring the most ambitious projects to a successful conclusion.
